Turn Claude Code into Your Desktop Pet – This Open-Source Project is So Creative

The source code for Claude Code was leaked yesterday.

As soon as the source code came out, netizens started digging through it frantically, and they actually found something great.

Hidden in the source code is a complete pet system codenamed BUDDY.

The internal salt value is friend-2026-401, clearly an Easter egg prepared for April Fools’ Day.

The plan was to start the warm-up on April 1st and officially launch in May.

The entire pet system is quite well-made.

There are 18 pet species in total: duck, cat, dragon, octopus, owl, penguin, sloth, capybara, cactus, mushroom, robot, rabbit.

There’s also one called ‘chonk’ – not sure what it is, but just the name sounds cute.

I had CC read its own source code to visualize these pets.

And Claude Code even created a gacha system.

Common accounts for 60%, Uncommon 25%, Rare 10%, Epic 4%, Legendary and Shiny each 1%.

Each pet also has different attributes across five dimensions: DEBUGGING, PATIENCE, CHAOS, WISDOM, SNARK.

You can also change the eye styles for pets and put various hats on them, like crowns, wizard hats, propeller hats, etc.
